What does sleep for a Ten month old infant look like?

At around 10 months of age, infants usually require an average of 12 to 14 hours of sleep per day, including nighttime sleep and naps. However, every child is unique, and sleep patterns can vary. Here are some general guidelines for a 10-month-old infant’s sleep:

1. Nighttime sleep: Most 10-month-old infants sleep for approximately 10 to 12 hours during the night. They may still wake up once or twice for feeding or comfort, but they should be able to fall back asleep relatively easily.

2. Naps: At this age, infants typically have two naps during the day. Each nap can last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. It’s common for babies to transition from three to two naps around 9 to 12 months of age.

3. Bedtime routine: Establishing a consistent bedtime routine can help signal to your infant that it’s time to sleep. A typical routine may include activities such as a warm bath, a soothing massage, reading a book, or singing a lullaby.

4. Sleep environment: Creating a comfortable and safe sleep environment is important. Ensure the room is dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature. Consider using a white noise machine or a soft nightlight if it helps soothe your baby.

5. Sleep associations: By 10 months, infants may have developed sleep associations or preferences, such as being rocked or nursing to sleep. If these associations become problematic, you can gradually encourage your baby to learn to fall asleep independently by implementing gentle sleep training methods. Remember that sleep patterns can vary from child to child, and it’s important to adapt to your baby’s individual needs. If you have concerns about your infant’s sleep habits or if they are having trouble sleeping, consult with Dream Sleep Occupational Therapy.
